This weekend is for being productive, being healthy, and being happy.
Tonight, I'm going to basketball.
Tomorrow, I have hiking in the morning and Bader's play in the evening.
As for Sunday and Monday, I'm free as a bird.

Friday, April.29th, 2016
It was an awesome long weekend; I can't believe it's Friday already, but I'm ready for another.
Last Friday night, we played ball as usual, and then went home. Hopefully tonight, we can get something to eat together afterwards.
Saturday morning found me at Songdo Beach with some of the crew for a hike through Annam Park near Gamcheon Village. The view and the weather was pretty nice, but some of our crew's guests garnered mixed reviews.
Come 7pm, I went with the rest of the girls to support Bader's opening night for her play, Accidental Death Of An Anarchist. She had been to rehearsals nonstop for the past few months, and we were super excited to finally her. Our budding actress did not disappoint. Her background in theater definitely showed in her outstanding performance in the superintendent role. Afterwards, we all went out for a celebratory dinner at Burgers and Pasta and an evening stroll along Gwangalli Beach.
I had a relaxing day of brunch and shopping with N and D at Cafe Ean and Centum City on Sunday. I didn't buy too much though, just a flimsy pair of black lace shorts that I need to go jogging a dozen more times for before wearing to look good.
Monday was my school's birthday, so I had that day off too. So I went hiking at Igidae Park with my co-teacher.
Dear my future self,
If you want to return to Igidae Park, here are the directions:
Take subway to KSU
get out exit 3
get on bus 2-1 to Oruydo
get off bus, cross street to other side, and follow path.
And now, it's time to do something productive. Tax returns for 2015, here I come. Hear me roar.

Grade 4 Emotions First Time
This is one of my best original activities. It worked so well with last year's fourth-graders that I decided to reuse it, with upgraded music selections.
It's a simple single slide, and two foam dices are needed. Each pair of students roll the dices, and the whole class shows me 5 second combos of "angry basketball", "sad swimming", "tired eating", etc...

Simplicity is all you need, but first, you need a really really good idea. That's always the hardest part.
Grade 6: When Is Your Birthday Listening Activity
I played Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You" in the background for the first three minutes of class. Our focus for Lesson 4 is to learn the twelve months. I had the twelve months on the board and let the students put colored magnets over the syllable where they thought the stress would fall onto. We focused on pronunciation, and having the students do something semi-active made learning 12 new vocab words less boring.
Also, I told them they had to memorize 9 10 11 12 for the tricky last four months of the year. We'll
S O N D
see how well that sticks when I see them again next Wednesday.
For our listening activity, we played a simple game that was nonetheless effective. Each group of four students huddled over a slip of paper, their pencils poised.
If I yelled out JULY!, everyone had to write down 7. When finished, they had to raise their paper slip in the air and yell FINISHED!
The fastest team got 2 points, and every team that followed suit got 1 point.
To make it more interesting, I yelled out holidays and my birthday just for fun.

Grade 6 Lessons 1-3 Review: Categories Game
It's rare for me to create a lesson that leaves my co-teacher completely satisfied, but Monday was a great day for my sixth-graders.
There were three teams, and each team's captain got to choose their player for the next round. We went in rotation of category questions. For categories Words, Guess Who, Where, and Signs, the students had to hit the bell to answer. For category Don't Stop, I hit the buzzer in 5 seconds if they can't come up with an answer on the spot.
My 6-1 class, which is usually my most apathetic class, was alert, bright-eyed, and attentive. They listened well, and understood immediately. My other two classes were animated as usual, though a bit too boisterous.
I thought the class felt organized yet relaxed, and it kept me in high spirits for the rest of the week.

Voting Day
Thursday, April.14, 2016
Yesterday was voting day for the city of Busan. All of last week, elderly citizens showed their support for their candidate choice by bellowing through megaphones on the backs of open trucks in small but enthusiastic rallies every morning. Indeed, a friend of mine said he used them as his human alarm clocks. All this would be pointless if it weren't for the fact that school was cancelled yesterday so that citizens could vote.
Despite the fact that it was chilly and rainy, we salvaged the day by having fun like high school students. I met up with Hosu, Han, Jon, and Julianne at Doogie Board Game Cafe in PNU around 12:45pm. It costs only 2400 won each person per hour to play board games, and you can drink mango juice, iced green tea, and iced coffee free of charge.

We had lunch at a Japanese-style curry restaurant across the street and I got the curry udon with shrimp tempura and chicken kaarage (12 000 won). It was yum, and I'm already reminiscing about it.
We went bowling at the comic bowling alley place. It's pretty pricey though. We played 3 games, and it was almost 12 000 won a person. The atmosphere is fun though, and I reached a new hi-score of 76, woo-hoo!
We wasted a bit of time deciding if we wanted to watch a movie or do escape room. With none of those options working out, we made the right choice by going to noraebang. After hearing the guys sing it, this is my song of the day.
Afterwards chimek at Outdark, we went to
Thursday Party, naturally.
Face swap strikes again.
So apparently, April.14th is Black Day in Korea. Single people wear black and eat black bean noodles to express their bitter loneliness. Mr. Park from 6-2 gave me this:

One Friday In April
Current weather: sunny with a slight wind chill
Current activity: blog post writing before lunchtime
Current book: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
Current mood: Not bad
OOTD: linty grey sweater, linty black skirt, linty black pantyhose
The best news I got this week was from Hoda telling me she'll be back in Busan from May.2nd to May.30th, and visiting from Seoul intermittently between June to Aug.24th. Also, I think we get Lana back for August. I wish it was for good and forever, but I'll take anything and everything. I'll save my welcome for when you ladies get back, but we miss you all very much.
For the first weekend in weeks, I'm not consumed with making plans for a big weekend out. I was so concerned with making every weekend memorable and glamorous so that I could post about it, so that others could see photos of it.
Monday, April.11th, 2016
Well, I did end up going out. Friday night came, and we went out afterwards for BBQ at a restaurant in Dongnae. We kept picking on Hosu during all the drinking games and he was a good sport about it.
I tried my luck at the stuff animal clamping vending machines, and wasted 5000 won.
We went to the Thursday Party in my area which never has any foreigners, but with all of the foreigners in our group being Asian, we blended in. After multiple rounds of drinks, we went to noraebang where I promptly fell asleep, but waking up miraculously for each song I picked. I think it was the musician in me being a fighter.

On Saturday night I went for makgeolli and bowling with Dave and Em, and got a high score of 38. I was really proud of myself, even though all my friends assured me it was a shameful score. Afterwards, I met up with Lauren and Sam at Sherlock Holmes in Seomyeon before we headed onto Groove for beer pong, more drinks, and dancing with Sam’s friends. Rose came too, with her date, who turned out to be my mentor from last year.
For some reason, I just wasn’t really feeling into it, so I snuck home when they migrated to Thursday Party.
Sunday night
Julianne, Michael, and I, the three musketeers went for burgers and gelato at Centum City last night. The food was mediocre, the lines were long, but the company was bomb.
