I played Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You" in the background for the first three minutes of class. Our focus for Lesson 4 is to learn the twelve months. I had the twelve months on the board and let the students put colored magnets over the syllable where they thought the stress would fall onto. We focused on pronunciation, and having the students do something semi-active made learning 12 new vocab words less boring.
Also, I told them they had to memorize 9 10 11 12 for the tricky last four months of the year. We'll
S O N D
see how well that sticks when I see them again next Wednesday.
For our listening activity, we played a simple game that was nonetheless effective. Each group of four students huddled over a slip of paper, their pencils poised.
If I yelled out JULY!, everyone had to write down 7. When finished, they had to raise their paper slip in the air and yell FINISHED!
The fastest team got 2 points, and every team that followed suit got 1 point.
To make it more interesting, I yelled out holidays and my birthday just for fun.
